The short answer
Most AI companion apps apply no content filter: of the sixteen reviewed, fourteen allow adult content and only Replika and Character.AI filter it out. The more useful question is not which are uncensored — nearly all are — but which combine that with a model worth talking to, a price you can predict and an operator you can identify.
Replika and Character.AI are excluded from this page because both filter adult content. If you are looking for an unfiltered companion, neither will suit you, whatever else they do well.

What to actually look for
This is the most searched question in the category and the least useful one, because the answer is "nearly all of them". Fourteen of the sixteen apps reviewed apply no content filter. Filtering is the exception, not the rule.
So the question worth asking is a different one. Among the apps that do not filter, which are actually good? That is what the ranking below shows, ordered by conversation and memory rather than by how permissive they are — because permissiveness is not a differentiator when almost everything qualifies.
There is a regulatory point here that most coverage gets wrong. Ofcom has said a standalone chatbot sits outside the Online Safety Act only where it does not connect users, does not search multiple sites, and cannot generate pornography. An app that generates images with no content filter does not satisfy that last condition, and Ofcom has said chatbots able to generate pornography already fall within the Act’s age-assurance duties.
On that test, most of the apps on this page appear to be under a duty to check age, and almost none of them do. That is not a reason to avoid them as an adult. It is a reason to be careful about who else can reach them from a device in your house, and our age verification guide sets out what actually works.
The two filtered apps are worth knowing about rather than dismissing. Replika removed adult roleplay in 2023 and is now a wellbeing product; Character.AI filters hard and is free. If what you want is company rather than content, they are the better-documented options.
